The word JIVA (jee-vuh) means the living soul. For this Metro Detroit based band music and soul go hand in hand. Thier sound is a mix of rock and R&B, kind of a Hendrix meets Prince vibe. Rock influences include Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix, where Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson round out a R&B feel. Fans and critcs have described Jiva as "modern rock with a classic soul". Detroit will always be our home and we have great respect for al the local musicians and proud to be from a city with a rich musical history and continuing legacy of talent.

We are currently working with:
What the Press is Saying "With Zep-worthy riffs, Motown's five-year-old foursome Jiva has pile-driven its way to the forefront of the Detroit Rock scene. Dig It: Soundgarden, Lenny Kravitz, Aerosmith" - Mike Breen Cincinnati CityBeat
“In a lot of ways, JIVA appears to be the quintessential Detroit act - born and bred in the Metro area and having forged their sound and attitude amongst the grit and grime of a rehearsal space downtown near the Wayne State University campus. They’ve been steadily spreading their motor city message of soulful rock with a kick throughout Michigan and the Midwest” - Detroit Live Magazine
“How about a side of soul with that rock 'n' roll?” Detroit band JIVA is dishing out heaping servings of both on its new disc “Breathe” - Rachel May Detroit Free Press
"Growing up on the eclectic Motor City music scene, it's no surprise these moody modern rockers have a sound all their own. Mixing alt-rock with R&B, this fierce foursome is like Aerosmith meets Lenny Kravitz" - Metromix Detroit
“They produce a sound that is fierce and funky and connects to the heart as well as the feet” - Detroit Live Magazine
"Familiarity works when the alt-rock wallop is right, and the Detroit area outfit really nails it on such tracks as "Far Beneath" and especially on "Heavens Too Late" - Johnny Loftus The Metro Times
"Got a sound that many will jam by...Larger than life guitar solos and riffs bring the "attitude" out of Jiva! All tracks are very well produced and uniquely arranged. It's obvious these musicians care about their music" - Catsask Music and Entertainment Magazine
"Their songs creep up on you; seductive at first, then suddenly shifting into rhythmic overdrive and inevitably carrying you out on a wave of climactic guitar. Good music, powerful performance, what more do you need?" - Michiganbands.com
"Moody modern rock"- Adam Graham The Detroit News
"The band specializes in "Gritty Sexy Detroit Rock" that is sure to knock your socks off! Try to think of Black Sabbath, Incubus, and Led Zeppelin rolled into one unit” - Tyrone Reed TheMusicSyndicate
"The overall stage presence was pleasing, and hard to take your eyes off. They seemed experienced (started in 2001 after all), and all members seemed confident in their music, which was mind-blowing to say the least" - The Sunflower Live Journal
"This whole band comes across in a different light than most acts out right now. They stick to the basics, and throw their own little twist to create the unique sound that is Jiva" - Keith Stanton Jam Rag Magazine
